What are Planetary Mixers
With Ginhong’s Multi-Shaft Mixer, it is possible to mix components with very high viscosities up to 750,000 cp. However, if you are going to process materials with viscosities higher than 750,000 cp up to millions of centipoises, it is time to use a Planetary Mixer.
In a Planetary Mixer, the impellers not only move in a one shaft axis, but the entire impeller moves around the vessel. It means that a rectangular blade at high speed rotates while revolving around the mixing vessel. It follows that all parts of the mixing tank are reached by the impeller. This type of mixer is used in processing gummy or sticky components when it is not possible to have the desired follow ability of the material by the action of the rotating impeller.

PX Planetary Disperser Mixer
The PX Planetary Disperser Mixer is suitable for industrial applications such as in chemical, pharmaceutical, food and beverage, cosmetic factories and industries. For this type of machinery, Ginhong offers working capacities from 15L-1500L with varying impeller rotations speeds (40 RPM to 95 RPM), agitator revolution speeds (25 RPM to 35 RPM), and Planetary agitator power (1.5 KW-55 KW).
PX Lab Planetary Disperser Mixer
PX Lab Planetary Disperser Mixer is a laboratory counterpart of the PX Planetary Disperser Mixer which is used for tests to yield new insights in mixer selection and application and to have the opportunity to refine mixing technique. This is often used before the product is subjected to the production line and for replicating process conditions.
Ginhong’s PX Lab Planetary Disperser Mixer is ideal equipment for setting up experiments for powder induction variation, shear rates variation, agitator combinations and speed variations, and vacuum variation to fine-tune operation and improve production yield. For this type of equipment, Ginhong offers working capacities from 5L-10L with an impeller rotation speed of 160 and agitator revolution speed of 75 RPM and a planetary power ranging from 1.5 KW to 2.2 KW.
YJ Hydraulic Ram Discharge Press
In addition to the family of Planetary Mixers is Ginhong’s YJ Hydraulic Ram Discharge Press, which is used for special cases of discharging non-flowing, viscous products from a mixing tank of a Planetary Mixer or Multi-Shaft Mixer. This is very useful equipment to prolong the mixer’s life, enhance product quality, avoid microbial growth in the production line and prevent counter mixing.
The Planetary Mixer operates very simply. Just like the Multi-Shaft Mixer, the planetary mixer has agitators rotating in an axis. However, for the Planetary Mixer, we can see two types of movements: revolving on a vertical axis at high speed and at the same time, this vertical axis rotates around the center of the bowl at a relatively lower speed.
The blades continuously advance along the periphery of the vessel, removing material from the vessel wall and transporting it to the interior.
After one revolution the blades have passed through the entire vessel, after three revolutions most materials have been mixed and after only 36 revolutions, the blades have contacted virtually the entire batch.
The wall scraper, made of Teflon, rotates clockwise slowly, which removes materials off the vessel wall and move to the mixing zone.
Because of the three different forces by planetary agitator, wall scraper and disperser, the paste rolls over the vessel from top to bottom and back to top repeatedly. When the paste is completely mixed, the heat from the jacket is quickly transferred to every part through the inside wall.
The above three types of slow and high forces repeat and repeat. And the paste is circulated inside the vessel and mixed, dispersed, kneaded and homogenized evenly.
Rotary impeller type vacuum pump (–0.09Mpa) is used to pull out the bubbles generated during mixing, dispersing and homogenizing. The small quantity powders are also sucked by vacuum to avoid dust.
How is it made
Ginhong’s Planetary Mixers are made of high-quality stainless steel with accordance to CGMP and FDA Standards. Their mixers are generally equipped with the following: the main mixing system, vacuum system, lifting system, discharging system, heating and cooling system, temperature control system, and electrical control panel.
Main Mixing System
The Main Mixing section containing the double planetary agitators, high-speed disperser and a wall Teflon scraper are all mounted vertically with an electric or hydraulic lifting or lowering arrangement. These mixing elements can be easily cleaned by automatically raising the lid containing the agitators or simply rotating the blades in the vessel loaded with solvent in the mixing tank during maintenance.
Vacuum and Heating and Cooling System
Vacuum construction and the jacketed mixing tank allows you to mix at the temperature you want and cool heat-sensitive products gently and quickly. The Double Planetary Mixer includes a heavy-duty frame, precision machined gears, extra durable bearings, and an all stainless steel gearbox.
The hydraulic system not only provides lifting ability to the planetary mixer but also provides compressing power to discharge the finished product from the portable mix tank.
Electrical Control Panel

De-aeration reduces product failures by eliminating voids. This is usually common in manufacturing cements or epoxy-based composites when they are subjected to stress.
Deoxidation is the removal of oxygen from the mixing system to prevent degradation of sensitive ingredients and unwanted chemical reactions during the mixing process. Oxygen can also promote microbial growth which might mix into the ingredients.
Moisture and solvent is driven off by the heat produced by vacuum at low pressure. With vacuum we can quickly take the batch material through a series of changes in physical state – from slurry to a paste, and from a paste to a granulation or dry powder.
Solvents drawn off with vacuum are easily condensed and captured. This prevents them from contaminating the atmosphere (both inside and outside the plant). The processor can then re-use the solvents or dispose of them to meet environmental requirements.
Under vacuum, we can inject liquids and lightweight powders into a batch through a sub-surface port in the vessel. This accelerates the mix cycle, especially by wetting out powders instantly.
A batch that has been agitated and deaerated under vacuum winds up denser than it was initially. This often enables us to mix more efficiently and to ship the product more economically. With densification, the physical properties of the end-product are often improved as well.
A useful tool to lower the temperature of your batch material by evaporation. This is especially helpful when the batch material becomes so thick that it is not in continuous contact with the vessel wall – and no longer transferring heat through the vessel wall to the cooling fluid.
No Dead Spaces

The transmission system of the planetary mixer is basically located at the top of the mixing drum and therefore it is completely disconnected from the concrete.
